It's Thanksgiving these days and with Thanksgiving follows days off - the first of those after starting school, since there is no fall break here in Michigan. These days are highly anticipated, so it feels really good. The kids were out of school yesterday (Wednesday) and I had also taken this extra day off, while Kristian had to work (or rather it is up to him to take days off, but with only five paid vacation days per year, they are not spent on days like this).
Expectation: I would sleep late, get up and prepare delicious breakfast for me and the kids before we headed outside in the gorgeous weather and maybe pulled the Christmas décor out.
Reality: I had 48 mice, I did not have time to fat mass scan on Tuesday and I look after some rats for a colleague, so I rolled out of bed at 5:30 in the morning to get a ride with Kristian Instead of taking the bus (my bike was buried In a pile of snow at work). Yawn. But it went well, all was done at 11:30, and then I sneaked down to the cafeteria to sit and relax for 5 minutes before biking home (my buried bike could be dug out and the snow on the bike lanes is almost gone making it OK to ride home). Maybe I also happened to buy a bag of "pop-chips" with sour cream and onion flavor, but only maybe. Just as I was sitting there, animal techs from our rooms AND two of my colleagues came down to buy lunch. And it did NOT pass unnoticed that I had not gone home yet, but iwas instead sitting at the cafeteria with a bag of – ehm - hypothetical chips ...... ..
When I got home Bailey went out to flash his new Christmas Sweater - something he was not too freaked out about, luckily. We then went to Whole Foods to pick up a big organic turkey, which is our contribution to Thankgiving dinner tomorrow. We went straight to Fabiana’s to drop it off, so she could prepare if for tomorrow. Teresa had boldly stated that she would carry the turkey all the way there ...... .. And promises are to keep! But she was not so exhausted that she could not strike a pose for the camera.
Besides the dinner in the evening (which we are super excited about), we have no big plans. Teresa would like to visit Briarwood mall on Black Friday, so it might be that the two of us get up early and sneak over there. We would also really like to get a couch that is not a futon loaner, but we plan to buy secondhand, and finding a couch that is not hideous takes more than one stop at a second hand store so maybe Kristian will stuff the boys in the car and take them couch shopping.
Happy Thanksgiving from the five (well 6 if you count in Bailey) of us in Michigan. We have A LOT to be thankful for this year :-)
